Happy 65th Birthday Dad Summers

An hawaiin Chris Moyles and his very very cool Dodge GM van, which incidentally would make a great camper ( Fe now wants one) (that is if we lived in a land of very very cheap gas, known as petrol or derv to us eastside of the pond) took us, 4 Americans, 1 Aussie and 1 far too chirpy for a 5am start Hawaiian, swiftly to the surprisingly windowless departure lounge within Honolulu airport. We felt the Aloha spirit right up to the death of us leaving this fantastic feel good 50th American state.

A Boeing 737 ride tooks us away from our final Polynesian island of this trip which brings with it the end of pacific island life that we both are going to miss greatly, minus tsunami alerts. The spirit of the Polynesians has been one of the most friendliest cultures we've ever encountered. A big 'Maloha' to you all!

Hawaii is the most isolated inhabited island in the world, with the nearest shores being some 2500 odd kilometres in any direction.  Alaska Airlines took us 5 hours Eastbound to Seattle which added another 3 hours to our wrists. Cabin crew were keen to show off Air Alaska's new gadgets. All inflight entertainment has now entered the world of the i-pad. Films, music and computer games. It also had a 'landbased' wifi net connection. Not much cop when 90% of our flight was over the mighty North Pacific ocean!  Alas with progress brings changes, these new age airline toys, that are the only way to tap into the onboard entertainment are not free, oh no. Our budget only stretching to a coffee and a bun so it was 5 odd hours of reading and sleeping. And trying to stop the feet going numb sat next to a drafty emergency exit! We should have guessed extra leg-room came with a price.
